Sync troubleshooting

Paste uses iCloud Drive to automatically sync Clipboard History and Pinboards to all devices, you don’t need to do anything.

You can check when the last sync happened in Paste Preferences on the Sync tab.

Requirements

In order to sync data between Mac and iOS you need to use Paste 2.3+ on Mac, the previous versions are not compatible with Paste for iOS. We strongly recommend using the latest version on all devices.

Configuration

Paste does not require any additional configuration, but you have to make sure that all your devices share the same iCloud account and sync is enabled in Preferences → Sync.

Mac

Please check the following settings:

  • You are signed into the iCloud in System Preferences → iCloud.
  • You are using the same iCloud credentials on all devices.
  • iCloud Drive is enabled.
  • Paste has an enabled checkbox inside the iCloud Drive → Options…

iOS

Please check the following settings:

  • You are signed into the Settings → iCloud Preferences Pane.
  • You are using the same iCloud credentials on all devices.
  • iCloud Drive is enabled.
  • Paste is enabled inside the iCloud Drive pane.

If you sync a large history for the first time

If you have a large number of snippets on Mac Paste on iOS will need some time to finish its first sync. Please leave Paste for iOS open for a few minutes to let it complete the sync.

Once it is finished, Paste will sync faster and more often on a snippet-by-snippet basis.

The time needed for this initial sync to finish will vary depending on your internet connection. For a fast sync, it might help to connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.

If everything looks good but sync still doesn’t happen

  1. Make sure you're using the latest version of Paste on all devices.
  2. Try to disable and enable sync again. Do not close Paste until initial sync is completed.
  3. Reset Paste's iCloud data in System Preferences → iCloud → Manage (right bottom corner, next to the available space indicator) → Delete Documents and Data. Disable and enable sync on all devices.
  4. Contact us and provide the following info: 
    • What device and what version of Paste you're using
    • Error messages from Preferences → Sync if any
    • Any other useful information or any steps you have performed
